Static and Dynamic Pile Load Test Services in West Bengal

A pile load test confirms, on site, how much load a pile can actually carry and how much it settles under that load. It replaces design assumptions with measured results before the structure is built on the piles.

BS Projects & Engineers Pvt. Ltd. plans, supervises and interprets static and dynamic pile load tests across West Bengal. Because our engineers also carry out soil investigation and foundation design, we read the test results against the design, not in isolation.

When a Pile Load Test Is Needed

  • Initial tests on trial piles, to confirm the design capacity before working piles are cast
  • Routine tests on working piles, to check construction quality
  • Sites with variable soil, where design assumptions need confirmation
  • When an authority, consultant or client asks for proof of pile capacity
  • When piles are suspected to be defective or under-performing

Static Pile Load Test

The pile is loaded in stages with hydraulic jacks reacting against a kentledge (dead weight) or anchor piles, and settlement is measured with dial gauges at each stage. Tests are carried out as per IS 2911 (Part 4).

  • Vertical (compression) load test
  • Lateral load test
  • Pull-out (uplift) load test
  • Initial and routine tests

Dynamic Pile Load Test

A drop weight strikes the pile head while sensors fixed to the pile record force and velocity. The signals are analysed to estimate the pile’s bearing capacity (high-strain dynamic testing, ASTM D4945). It needs no heavy kentledge, so several piles can be tested in less time.

Static or Dynamic: Which One?

  • Static test: the most direct measurement of capacity and settlement; usually specified for initial tests
  • Dynamic test: faster and needs less arrangement on site, so more piles can be checked
  • Many projects use both: a static test to confirm design capacity, and dynamic tests to cover more working piles

What Your Report Includes

  • Test arrangement, pile details and loading schedule
  • Load–settlement readings and curves
  • Safe load interpretation as per the applicable code
  • Observations and engineering recommendations

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an initial and a routine pile load test?
An initial test is done on trial piles before construction to confirm the design capacity. A routine test is done on selected working piles during construction to check that they perform as designed.

How long does a pile load test take?
It depends on the test load, pile size and site access. We confirm the schedule after reviewing your pile design and site conditions.

Can a dynamic test replace a static pile load test?
A dynamic test can supplement, and on some projects partly replace, static tests. The choice depends on the project specification and the approving authority. We advise which method suits your project.

Do you carry out pile load tests across West Bengal?
Yes. We work across West Bengal from our office at Nagerbazar, Kolkata.
