We know that whatever the structure we want to build, it finally have to put on the ground and the total load coming on the structure may be due to wind, earthquake or with any other combination of load that final will be transferred to the ground.
Now we often found that the soil is not sufficiently strong to carry the load coming from the structure that maybe a single storey building also.
